I haven't used S&O on rugs, but I'm guessing it would be an excellent option.
I'm not really set up as a rug cleaner just yet, I'm still picking and choosing what I want to work on. I have 5 area rugs at home I practiced on first. Then 2 of my mom's. Then about 10 in the last year from regular clientele.
I use lots of water, vinegar, and blue Dawn. Has worked really good so far. Hardest part is the fringes. They're a pain. I'd love to know a short cut on those.
I just lay a tarp down in a sloping driveway, saturate the rug with my vinegar and Dawn, scrub with my CRB, then use the water hose and point it at the back brush of my CRB and just keep working it until clean water flows, Usually takes about 10-15 minutes. Flip it, rinse the back side quickly, then one more pass on the top. I then extract it with my porty, put several boards under it to get it off the ground, and place air movers below and above. Most are dry in about an hour.
I realize that's a bit labor intensive, but it's a trade off since I don't have a wash pit and it's done on site.
